[Eval 4] What technologies have you learnt...

Throughout the course of the year, we have learnt and developed our knowledge of various technologies from Photoshop on Mac to how to use a video camera to record footage. We have experienced new technologies over the course too such as slideshare.net and Final Cut which we adapted to well.

The technology we used most during the production and post-production of our music video was certainly Photoshop. We used the graphics editing software to create digipak designs, magazine adverts and creating of a prop for the music video and made use of many of the tools available in the program such as cropping, layers, desaturation and brightness/contrast. We both already had previous experience of Photoshop but we felt we had adapted our knowledge of the software due to the constant use across the months of the course.

During the post-production of our music video, we learnt how to use Final Cut Pro to create, edit and render our music video from all the footage we had recorded on the video camera. We were both 'new customers' to the video editing software and soon learnt our way around to split clips, import sound and undercrank pieces of footage. We wanted to make the most of the various filters available to enhance our music video to the best of our ability.

Eval [3] What have you learnt...

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Our audience feedback consisted of answers to the written questionnaire that we wrote and distributed to an audience of random students at our college. We had some major drawbacks with our audience feedback because we were unable to distribute our music video online due to copy right issues that we have highlighted in a blog post. We were planning to distribute our music video on the social networking sites Facebook and Twitter, the microblogging website Tumblr and the social news site Reddit as well as YouTube. We aimed to gain a much larger audience by making our media product available across the Internet by uploading the music video to many popular websites that would guarantee a strong response. Since we were unable to gain a wide audience in this manner, we had to settle with distributing a paper questionnaire in a class at our college and let the students watch the video and answer the questionnaire. Altogether we received twenty responses which give a range of answers which we were pleased with as we were worried the small amount of feedback wouldn’t give us a wide range of answers.

One of the most important we asked our audience was to rate our music video out of 10 (0 being a negative response and 10 being a positive response). We received an average score of 6.5 out of a possible 10 which we were suitably pleased with. We agreed that we expected no more than 7/10 and wanted a score of over 5/10 so we felt we had been successful in this respect.
One thing we wanted to know from our audience was what they liked the most about the music video. We had a good range of answers from the storyline of the music video’s narrative to the editing of the video. Other common answers were the song itself which was appreciated for it’s lyrics and tone as well as the use of the rose prop throughout the video which symbolised the love between the couple in the relationship. Other answers included the performance shots, the atmosphere and the transitions.
We were keen to know how well others thought that our actor and actress did acting out the two characters in the video. We received an even amount of yes/no answers to the question “Was the actor/actress’s acting realistic?”. Ten people said that the acting was realistic while the other ten respondents said that the acting was not realistic. We were not surprised by the even amount of yes and no answers as we were aware that the acting wasn’t brilliant because of how the filming went on the day.
